KYIV — A delegation from the Ukrainian Air Force, led by Commander Lieutenant General Anatolii Kryvonozhko, has met with leadership from defense contractor Lockheed Martin to address sustainment frameworks for Kyiv’s operational F-16 fleet and evaluate future procurement pathways for the advanced F-16 Block 70/72 (Viper) configuration. While no formal procurement contract or airframe quantities have been finalized, the high-level consultations establish a strategic bridge from initial Western fighter integration toward modernizing Ukraine’s tactical aviation force.

Ukrainian defense officials reported that donated F-16 platforms have demonstrated exceptionally high operational tempo in theater, successfully intercepting over 3,150 airborne targets—including 666 cruise missiles and approximately 2,500 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)—while conducting over 650 tactical precision airstrikes against enemy ground positions. Discussions focused on expanding domestic maintenance capabilities, accelerating spare parts logistics, and establishing long-term pilot and technician training pipelines. Furthermore, the potential transition to newly manufactured F-16 Block 70/72 airframes would provide the Ukrainian Air Force with 5th-generation radar technology, extended structural service life, and advanced electronic warfare suites to counteract dense anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) networks.
