CANBERRA, Australia — The Australian Department of Defence announced on October 7, 2026, that the Australian Army has received its second tranche of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers from the United States under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) framework.
Delivered two years ahead of original baseline schedules and just one year following the arrival of the initial battery, the shipment expands the firepower of the Army’s 10th Fires Brigade (headquartered at Edinburgh Defence Precinct in Adelaide). The acquisition forms part of Australia’s broader long-range strike procurement strategy, which will field up to 90 M142 HIMARS launchers split across two long-range fires regiments. The capability is supported by domestic Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and solid rocket motor manufacturing initiatives established in South Australia and Victoria.
