HENSINKI / STOCKHOLM — Finland and Sweden have placed initial orders for Patria’s newly developed Trackx 15-tonne tracked armored vehicle, marking the platform’s first procurement milestones. Developed under the EU-funded European Defence Fund (EDF) FAMOUS (Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems) program, the Trackx is engineered specifically to replace aging legacy tracked fleets, including the U.S.-designed M113 and Soviet-era MT-LB, in extreme Arctic, swamp, and deep-snow environments.
The procurement includes a €13 million pre-series contract from Finland to support operational trials with the Kainuu Brigade beginning in autumn 2027, along with an evaluation order of five vehicles by Sweden. Equipped with 560 mm composite rubber tracks and an independent, adjustable hydropneumatic suspension, the Trackx exerts a low nominal ground pressure of 32 kPa at maximum combat weight—achieving superior soft-soil flotation and mobility over legacy platforms while accommodating modern C4ISR, remote weapon stations, and alternative mission payloads.
