ASHGABAT — The Armed Forces of Turkmenistan publicly debuted the Chinese-developed FK-2000 short-range air defense system (SHORAD) during a military parade celebrating the nation’s 35th anniversary of independence in Ashgabat. Eight FK-2000 air defense combat vehicles participated in the motorized column, confirming the system’s formal induction into frontline service to enhance point-defense and mobile force protection capabilities against precision-guided munitions, loitering munitions, and low-altitude aerial threats.
Developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the FK-2000 combines missile and gun effectors onto a single highly mobile 8×8 all-wheel-drive platform. The system operates as a mobile terminal defense layer designed to protect maneuvering armored formations, command posts, and strategic infrastructure. With its induction, Turkmenistan further consolidates its reliance on Chinese air defense architectures, layering the FK-2000 alongside existing HQ-9 (FD-2000) long-range SAMs, KS-1A medium-range SAMs, and HQ-7 (FM-90) short-range point-defense assets to form a unified multi-tiered integrated air defense system (IADS).
