Indra has presented DRIZZLE, its next-generation family of autonomous interceptor effectors designed to neutralize low-cost drone threats and counter mass swarm attacks. Unveiled at UNVEX, Spain’s premier unmanned systems exhibition, the low-cost hard-kill solution is engineered to reinforce the self-protection of critical infrastructure, ground convoys, land vehicles, and aircraft.

Operating as a high-speed, expendable asset, DRIZZLE provides allied forces with a highly cost-effective counter-UAS (C-UAS) response designed to match the economic realities of modern drone warfare.

STRATEGIC DEPLOYMENT & MOTHERSHIP ARCHITECTURE

* Extended Operational Range: The baseline interceptor delivers a standalone range of approximately 80 km.
* Mothership Integration: To extend operational depth, Indra developed a dedicated carrier drone (mothership) capable of transporting multiple smaller interceptors.
* High-Altitude Delivery: The mothership operates at altitudes up to 30,000 feet, carrying interceptors across the initial 80 km phase before releasing them to cover an additional 50 km—reaching a total effective strike radius of 130 km.
* Swarm Capabilities: Mothership vectors can fly in coordinated swarms to release a dense “drizzle” of interceptors to saturate adversary defenses, while also retaining the ability to act as direct strike assets upon mission completion.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: INDRA DRIZZLE C-UAS INTERCEPTOR

* System Type: Low-cost, expendable autonomous kinetic interceptor (Hard-Kill Effector)
* Peak Velocity: Exceeds 400 km/h (approx. 250 mph / 111 m/s)
* Operational Altitude: Mothership transit up to 30,000 ft
* Standalone Range: ~80 km
* Mothership-Assisted Range: Up to 130 km
* Guidance & Target Acquisition: Real-time edge processing unit integrating Electro-Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) dual-spectrum sensors for terminal phase tracking
* Sensor Evolution: Ongoing development to integrate onboard radar capability for enhanced target discrimination in denied environments
* Platform Compatibility: Integrated as a C-UAS hard-kill layer or launcher-mounted on ground vehicles, helicopters, and static infrastructure

By combining extreme velocity, real-time optical/IR tracking, and extended stand-off range through mothership delivery, Indra’s DRIZZLE system establishes a scalable tactical shield against mass uncrewed aerial attacks.
