QINGDAO, China — Operational video footage released during far-seas training deployments in the Western Atlantic and Philippine Sea confirmed the first operational integration of the Shenyang J-35 fifth-generation stealth fighter into the air wing of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) aircraft carrier Liaoning (Type 001).

The deployment verifies that the twin-engine, medium-weight J-35 is dual-capable, operating both via Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS) on the CATOBAR supercarrier Fujian (Type 003) and from STOBAR (Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery) ski-jump flight decks. Following extensive deck-handling evaluations at Dalian Shipyard with full-scale mockups and preliminary STOBAR flight trials, the Liaoning’s air wing now fields a composite 5th-gen/4.5-gen strike array consisting of the J-35 (stealth air superiority/strike), J-15B (multirole heavy fighter with upgraded AESA/avionics), and J-15D (dedicated electronic attack platform).

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: SHENYANG J-35 (NAVAL STOBAR / CATOBAR VARIANT)
