PARIS / ROME — France and Italy have accelerated the delivery schedule for Aster 30 surface-to-air interceptor missiles to Ukraine, bringing forward planned shipments to October 2026. In addition to missile transfers, Paris and Rome have formally authorized the licensed production of Aster 30 interceptors directly on Ukrainian soil, establishing domestic manufacturing capabilities to secure long-term ammunition supply for national air defense networks.
The bilateral initiative supports Ukraine’s procurement of four Next-Generation Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/Terrain (SAMP/T NG) air defense systems. To bridge the operational gap ahead of serial SAMP/T NG deliveries starting in 2027, France will temporarily deploy two in-service SAMP/T (MAMBA) batteries directly from French Armed Forces stocks. The multi-tiered air defense reinforcement is specifically timed to bolster protection across Ukrainian energy grids and critical infrastructure against escalating drone, cruise missile, and ballistic strike campaigns ahead of the winter season.
TACTICAL ARCHITECTURE & INDUSTRIAL LOCALIZATION
* Interim Deployment: Two frontline French SAMP/T batteries will be temporarily transferred to Ukrainian control, providing immediate point and theater defense until newly manufactured SAMP/T NG systems enter service.
